Local Government Shame

Could someone ‘Please explain!’ to me how the (NOT-FOR-PROFIT) AUSTRALIAN ROLLER SKATING CLUB inc, who lodged an ‘Expression Of Interest’ for 110 Memorial Avenue, Liverpool (Tender LS2278) could be informed they were unsuccessful!

The ARSC built the facility with their own funds for the benefit of the whole Community, with the sole aim of aiding Children, both Healthy and Disabled

This facility was run successfully for 29 years, at NO COST to the Community

It was based on the Principle of SELF-HELP, with COMMUNITY CO-OPERATION, for the benefit of the Community... Not Council!

With no consultation, Liverpool City Council took control of the site after the collapse of the failed ‘Oasis’ development, which saw that Council sacked

The ARSC only agreed to terminate their Lease on the promise that the roller skating venue was to be INCORPORATED into the ARENA, RELOCATED to a similar site, or COMPENSATED to be allowed to rebuild

When the ‘Oasis’ failed to eventuate, the ARSC Lease should have been automatically reinstated

For 10 years the ARSC has waited for a compassionate Council to ‘right the wrong’ and correct an injustice perpetrated by a former Liverpool Council

Having been led to believe that the majority of this current Council was
supportive of the ARSC returning to the Skateland, by righting this wrong, “Where is the justice for the Children who have already lost a decade of financial support?”

Hi Dave,

I work in the Digital Media Unit now helping to run the social media. We're the Content team part of the DMU - in other words editorial.

Marketing is a different department altogether. We ask them to consider digital when coming up with creative and campaign ideas but we run and implement the ideas as far as social media is concerned. :)

As I link to this post from two years ago, I'm well aware of the current strong feelings about abortion by people I know who may well criticise me for that second-last paragraph.

Again, I disagree with it, but like most things in life it's not a clear cut issue. If it's opposed with vigour, the children who are born into potentially life-threatening situations should be supported - and just as vigourously.

Break out the vintage EarleyEdition Blonde! I don't remember how bad it hurt to get to the top - and didn't know St Paul's (which unfortunately I didn't go and see) had 530 stairs!
